Create a Trendy Advertisement In Under 5 Minutes

Step One

To start off we are going to create a rectangular document in photoshop roughly 600px by 280 px. Obviously if this were a real advertisement for a company it would be much larger, but this is just for learning purposes so the size doesnt really matter. Go ahead and create your document and fill the background with the color #152c3f

Step Two

Now we want to create a little lighting effect to give the advertisement a little bit of depth. Pick a soft round brush around 350 px, create a new layer and set its belnding mode to everlay and paint a spot on the left side of the rectangle as I have below.

Now duplicate the layer you just made by slecting it and pressing Ctrl + J (Cmd + Shift + Q in mac) and you should have something like this.

Step Three

Now lets add a little bit of flair to this. Select the pen tool and draw something like I did below and fill it with black.

Step Four

Using the pen tool again, make a second layer similar to this one, and fill it with black.

Step Five

Now go back and rasterize those two layers, and set the first one you created to an opacity of around 50% and the second one to around 20%.

Step Six

Now we need to put our product in the advertisement. I found a vodka bottle image on deviantart.com and placed it on the right hand side after extracting it from its original image. Here is the link to it : Vodka Bottle

Step Seven

After doing a quick google search, I found the name of the font that they use on the Absolut Vodka bottle and downloaded it. Here is the download link: Futura Condensed Extra Bold.

After dowloading it and installing the font, open up photoshop and type something catchy to say. I figured what better thing to say for Absolt Vodka than Absolutely.

Step Eight

Now all we need to do is add depth to the text. Go to the effects window, and put a gradient overlay of black to white over the text at an opacity of around 20%

Next do an outer glow effect with the color black, an opacity of 35%, and a size of 10px roughly. Also, dont forget to change the blend mode to normal, because using black on a blend mode of screen wont show up.

Conclusion

And there you go. A billboard quality advertisement in about 5 minutes flat. If you want to play around with it a little bit, you can change the background color to green and snag a picture of a heinnekin bottle and write a something  about how it builds your character or what have you.
